Roundtable How to teach and learn EU topics at school in 21st century?

A round table on "How to teach and study the topics of the European Union in schools in the 21st century?" was held in Bourgas in the period from September 30, 2021 to October 2, 2021.

The forum was attended by teachers and principals of schools from Burgas - Vocational School of Commerce, Vocational School of Mechanical, Electrical and Electronics, High School "St.St. Cyril and Methodius” and the Sports School, Karlovo - High School “Vasil Levski”, Karnobat - High Schoo l“Hristo Botev”, as well as university lecturers from the Department of European Studies at Sofia University“ St. Kliment Ohridski ”and of NABEC.

Challenges, problems, as well as pedagogical solutions related to the European dimension of education were discussed with teachers in various subjects in secondary schools.

The results of the research on the project were presented and the application of new approaches in the teaching of European topics in school, so that they are interesting and accessible to students, was discussed.

Prof. Dr. Ingrid Shikova talks about the EU policies, which should be closer to young European citizens. She touched on the hot issues on the European Union's agenda, and drew attention to the gap on topics related to current EU priorities, which should be filled with student activities.

Assoc. Prof. Kaloyan Simeonov aroused a wide discussion on the topic of "Bulgaria and the euro" and highlighted the many questionable conditions, benefits, possible losses.

Educational challenges in the 21st century and how current EU issues are interesting to teach were the main focus of discussions with the forum's teachers. Students from school European clubs, ambassadors of the European Parliament also took part in the exchange of practices and events.

The progress of the new online Resource Center Europe and its materials were presented, which can help both teachers in interactive teaching of European topics and students who can use them freely. Attention was paid to strengthening the school-university link.

A practical exchange to improve the study of European Union issues in secondary schools was held at the National Trade High School, Bourgas - a member of the national network of school European clubs - NABEC. The director of NTG Mr. Pavel Chepov, the deputy director and head of the European Club Mrs. Yovka Yanakieva, teachers, university professors from Sofia University "St. Kliment Ohridski ”and from NABEC participated.

An exchange of pedagogical solutions for the study of European Union issues in secondary schools was held at the Vocational School of Mechanical Engineering and Electronics, Burgas - School Ambassador of the European Parliament. The director of PGMEE Mrs. Jeleva, the director of NTG Mr. Pavel Chepov, the deputy director Rumyana Georgieva, the senior ambassadors of the EP Mrs. Desislava Kirova-Bachvarova and Mrs. Gabriela Demireva, teachers, university lecturers from Sofia University took part "St. Kliment Ohridski ”and from NABEC.
