Abstract

The paper examines the main values that form the essence of a democratic society and determine its characteristics. In order to provoke discussion about the different aspects of freedom, the parable about the Demon of Cratius is described. Ideas of fundamental democratic values human rights, freedom, equality, rule of law, justice, diversity, pluralism, tolerance, dignity, participation, responsibility, are discussed.
